No shoes, no shirt no service....er, actually keep the shirt on, leave the shoes at the door!
In yoga we practise with clean, bare feet. We are very mindful of our overall cleanliness, and we ensure that our perspiration does not distract others. If regular deodorant is not your bag, please use an alternative product.
Try to come to class on an empty stomach. It can be very uncomfortable to practise yoga while digesting a heavy meal. If you must eat before class, keep it to a very light snack.
The clothing of choice for most yogi and yogini's is typical breathable active wear. Loose or tight fighting is individual choice, however be aware that a loose t-shirt will fall right over your shoulders in an inversion if not tucked in!
Some folks prefer having quiet time to meditate before a class. Therefore MYoga suggests keeping your greetings and socializing to outside the studio space and entering in a quiet manner so as not to disturb those in meditation.
At the end of a yoga class, we practice Svasana. Please do not get up during this practice to collect your things, as the rest of the class will be in deep relaxation and will have an interruption in their divine state of bliss.
Respect your fellow students by concentrating on your own experience rather than looking around the room and analyzing the experience of others. Yoga is a practise of self discovery. We practice non-judgement, and patience. The minute we start to compare ourselves to somebody else in a given posture, we lose the essence of the practice.
Breathe! Far more important than coming into a full posture is the use of the breath in the pose. When the breath is lost this usually means you have gone beyond your edge and you must ease off to get the full benefit of the pose.
Keep it light! Life is way too important to be taken seriously. Breathe in lightness, patience, kindness, and don't forget to play. Yoga is far less enjoyable when we think of it as a goal to obtain rather than a position to play with.
Don't let the ego interfere. We do not practise yoga to "get there". We are already there! We are each the students and the masters of our own infinite selves.
Namaste!
