Power Yoga is rooted in Ashtanga yoga, and has an athletic focus. It is designed to work the entire body, build strength and stamina, condition the heart and cardiovascular system, as well as rid the body of toxins, lengthen muscles and increase flexibility and balance. Whew...You bet, it's a workout! However, by engaging in breathwork, and permitting yourself to explore your own limitless potential, the practice becomes very playful and light. Finding what is at your core essence enables you to move through the class with ease and grace even during the most challenging poses.
Level 1 - Mondays 5:30-6:45pm
Level 2 - Power "Play" Yoga Wednesdays
5:30-7:00pm.

Mary has 300 hours of teacher training in the Interdisciplinary yoga tradition. This style recognizes that no two persons will look the exact same in any given posture. Structural alignment, muscular development, gender, previous traumas and injuries, and connective tissue strength all play a role in determining how a person postitions themselves in a yoga pose. Therefore each person should explore their unique experience, and be given the freedom to find their own yoga. "Myoga"

Mary Shaw is a registered interdisciplinary yoga teacher, and a BCRPA Certified Weight Trainer. She has studied yoga for over 10 years, and her passion and dedication to the practice are what drive her to live the healthiest and most enriching life possible. By incorporating cross training with yoga Mary has discovered an elevated height of enjoyment in her life. Mary hopes to teach students that yoga is an essential part of an active lifestyle, and that blending it with weight training, hiking, swimming, racquet sports, biking, rock climbing, skiing, snowboarding, running, kayaking, dancing, martial arts, running, soccer, baseball, ultimate, and any other activity or sport you engage in will not only enhance your performance and your overall fitness, but take you to a place of peace and contentment unlike pure athletics alone. What matters in yoga is that you start somewhere. It doesn't matter how old or how flexible you are, and in fact, the less flexible you are the more reason for you to practice! How far you take your yoga journey is entirely up to you.
The destination is irrelevant, it's the experiences within the journey that change your life.
Namaste! Pura Vida! OOOoooooooooommmm!
